Being great at one thing doesn’t exempt you from being a beginner at the next. Each arena has its own tuition.

RESILIENCE
Competence does not transfer as cleanly as it feels like it should. Being skilled somewhere gives you confidence and a way of learning, but no exemption from the awkward early stage of a different field. Each area charges its own price in time and mild embarrassment. Expecting a discount is what makes people quit their second thing.
Before starting something new, decide how long you are willing to be bad at it. Tell whoever is teaching you that you are starting from nothing. Let your existing skill supply patience rather than speed.
Where does skill in one area make you impatient elsewhere?
