Wherever you land, your character is the one suitcase the airline never loses.

Everything else about a move is contingent: the job, the room, whoever you happen to know there. What you are like travels automatically and arrives in exactly the condition you packed it in. That is reassuring when you have very little else, and inconvenient when you were hoping a new place would fix something. New surroundings do not edit habits.

Before a move, decide what you want to be true of you in the next place. Start it where you currently are, since it is coming with you either way. Geography changes the scenery and not much else.
