Having standards isn’t being stuck up. It’s knowing where your line is before someone tests it.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

A line decided in advance is not snobbery, it is preparation. Most people do not fail their values in a considered moment; they fail them in a fast one, with company present and no time to think. Knowing where you stand beforehand removes the need to improvise under pressure, which is the worst condition for judgment. It also makes you easier to be around, because people learn what to expect from you.

Name the two or three lines you actually hold and say them to yourself plainly. Decide what your answer sounds like if one gets tested this month. Short answers hold better than explanations.
