Neglect narrows things quietly. A skill left unused stops being available, a friendship left untended stops being one you can call on, a body left unmaintained removes choices from your week. None of these announce their departure, and by the time you reach for them the option is simply gone.

Think about what options you want to still have in ten years. Maintain the things those options depend on now. Removal by neglect is silent and mostly irreversible.
