People like whoever’s fun at the party. They trust whoever shows up when the car breaks down.

Liking and trusting are produced by completely different evidence. One comes from how enjoyable you are in good conditions; the other comes from what you did when being there was inconvenient and nobody would have blamed you for staying home. Plenty of popular people are never called in an emergency, and they usually do not know it.

Look at which list you are on with the people you care about. If you want the second one, the price is answering at a bad hour and driving somewhere you did not plan to go. There is no version of it that happens at a convenient time.
