Nobody got influential in a weekend. It’s months of being the same person on Monday that you were on Friday.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Consistency across time is what makes a person legible, and legibility is most of what standing actually is. People are deciding, slowly and mostly without noticing, whether the version of you they met is the version they will get again. Every inconsistency resets that clock a little.

Choose the two or three things you want to be reliable about and hold them everywhere: with friends, at work, when tired, when nobody would notice. Give it months rather than weeks. The accumulation is invisible right up until people start assuming things about you.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Are you the same person at work and at home?
