Pressure gets people to perform scared. Support gets them to perform free.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Fear narrows what a person can do. Under threat, people play to avoid the mistake rather than to make the play, and the result is technically adequate and never better than that. Feeling backed produces the opposite: a willingness to try the thing that might not come off, which is where anything good comes from.
Tell the people around you what happens if the next high-pressure moment goes wrong, and make it survivable. Say it plainly rather than implying it. Then ask for the ambitious version, which they can now afford to attempt.
When did you perform better because someone had your back?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
