Self-taught means you’re the student and the principal. Nobody’s calling home if you skip.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
Learning outside an institution removes the scaffolding as well as the walls. No attendance is taken, no deadline arrives on its own, and the only consequence of stopping is that nothing happens, which is a much weaker force than a teacher noticing. That is why self-directed study fails at the discipline layer rather than the difficulty layer.
Build yourself a substitute for the structure you no longer have. A fixed hour, a person you report to, a visible record of sessions done. Choose something external, because motivation is a poor supervisor over a long stretch.
What do you skip when nobody notices you skipped it?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
