Somebody out there is going to read what you wrote and feel less alone. That’s reason enough to finish it.

Work made in private has a destination you cannot see from where you are sitting. The thing you are half-finishing because it seems small or self-indulgent is, for one person somewhere, the sentence that makes their situation nameable. You will probably never meet them, and the reach does not depend on you knowing about it.

Finish the unfinished thing at whatever quality you can currently manage. Put it somewhere it can be found rather than in a folder. Aim it at one person rather than an audience, and let that be enough reason to complete it.
