You can be ahead on every checklist and still behind on the stuff that makes life feel like yours.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Checklists measure what is easy to specify, which is rarely what makes a life feel inhabited. Qualifications, milestones, the right sequence of jobs: all of it can be complete while the parts nobody writes down, being known, doing something you care about, having an ordinary Tuesday you like, are missing entirely. The scoreboard is not lying, it is just measuring something else.

Ask what would have to be true for your life to feel like yours, in specific terms. Then compare that list to the one you are currently working through. Where they differ is where your attention probably belongs.
