If happiness is always one more achievement away, the finish line is on wheels.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Conditional happiness has a structural problem, not a quantity problem. Once contentment is attached to the next thing, reaching it simply transfers the condition to whatever comes after, because the arrangement is about the reaching rather than the thing. That is why people who get everything they listed still describe themselves as almost there.
Try placing some satisfaction in the present tense rather than the future one. Name something already true that you would have envied five years ago. The goals can stay; what changes is whether your whole sense of being all right is parked at the end of them.
What did you promise yourself would finally be enough?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
