Integrity is easy when it’s free. You learn what yours is worth the day it costs you something.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Doing the right thing when it costs nothing tells you very little about yourself. The price only shows up on the day honesty loses you the job, the friend or the advantage, and that is when you learn what yours is actually worth. Most people never find out until the bill turns up unannounced.

Look back at a time being straight cost you something, and notice how you feel about it now. Decide in advance which line you will not cross, while deciding is still cheap. And when somebody near you pays that price, tell them you saw it.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What has honesty cost you that you paid willingly?
