Your follower count is a statistic about an app, not a statistic about you.

A number that moves with an algorithm, a posting schedule and whatever the app is pushing this month measures conditions, not worth. It feels personal because it sits beside your name and your face. Plenty of people you admire have small numbers, and plenty of enormous ones belong to accounts nobody would want to be. The count is real information about reach and almost none about you.

If checking it moves your mood, notice when you check and what you were feeling just before. That pattern says more than the number does. Then ask what you would make if nobody counted.
