A feeling that only survives while someone is watching was never confidence. It was performance, running on an audience and dependent on one. The genuine version is quieter and fairly boring from the outside, because it does not need witnesses to keep working. You can tell them apart by what happens when nobody is around: performance goes flat, and the other thing carries on.

Do something you are good at this week with no record of it. No photo, no mention, nobody told. Notice whether the satisfaction survives, and what it feels like when it does.
