When other people’s reactions decide how you feel, they also decide what you do, so your day gets programmed by whoever happened to respond. It rarely feels like surrender at the time. It feels like being considerate. The complaint that arrives later, about being drained or unseen, is really a complaint about who is holding the control, and you handed it over one small accommodation at a time.
Make one decision this week without consulting anybody. Small is fine. The point is remembering the choice was always available to you.
Whose approval currently decides more of your week than yours?
