The reputation that matters most is the one you have with yourself at 11 p.m.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Public reputation is managed, partial and always slightly out of date. The private one cannot be managed at all, and it turns up when the day is over and there is nobody left to explain yourself to. That version decides whether you sleep easily and whether you trust your own word. It gets built out of small things nobody else witnessed.
Ask tonight what you would change about today if you had it again, and keep the answer to one item. Do that one thing tomorrow. Repeated, it quietly changes how the late hours feel.
What do you think about yourself right before sleep?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
