Anger can defend dignity or defend ego; the sensation alone will not tell you which.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Anger over being treated as less than a person and anger over not getting your way feel almost the same from inside. Both are hot, both feel righteous, both produce a case. The difference is not in the sensation but in what was actually at stake, and finding that out requires stepping back from the heat rather than trusting it.
When you are angry, ask what you would need in order to be satisfied. If the answer is fair treatment or an acknowledgment of harm, that is dignity and worth pursuing. If the answer is for them to admit you were right, or to feel worse than you do, the anger is guarding something more fragile and less worth defending.
Which recent anger of yours was protecting pride rather than something real?
