The algorithm doesn’t show you the world. It shows you a mirror with better lighting.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
A feed is built to hold you, and the reliable way to hold anyone is to hand back an intensified version of what they already believe. The range of what you see narrows while the feeling of being informed grows, which is hard to notice from inside. You end up with more certainty and less information.
Once a week, go and find something you would never be shown, a long piece or a disagreeing source. Notice what your feed has been implying that everyone thinks. The point is not to quit anything, only to keep a second window open.
What views never appear on your feed at all?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
