A sponge soaks up whatever it sits in. Choose your environment like you’re the sponge.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
You absorb the standards of the place you spend time in, usually without agreeing to them and often without noticing. The ambient level of effort and complaint around you becomes your baseline, and after a few months it stops feeling like a choice. Environment beats intention over any long stretch.
Look at the room you are in most and ask what it is making normal for you. Where you cannot leave, add one counterweight, a person, a group, an hour a week somewhere different. Choosing surroundings is slower than choosing behavior and it lasts much longer.
