Flavor needs time to soak in. So does advice.

Good counsel rarely works on contact. You hear it, it makes sense, nothing changes, and then months later you are in the middle of something and it surfaces with actual weight. The delay is not you being slow. It is the ordinary way understanding works, because you need the situation before the words can attach to anything.
Keep the advice you did not immediately use. Write the sentence somewhere you will pass again rather than deciding it did not apply. And when you give advice and the other person seems unmoved, let that be fine. You are seasoning something that gets eaten later.
Whose advice did you dismiss that later turned out right?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
