Soup is better the next day. So are most conversations about hard things.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Time does something to a difficult subject that no amount of immediate effort can. Overnight, the sharpest parts settle, the point becomes clearer, and the need to win it fades. The same words spoken a day later land completely differently, because both people have had time to stop defending.

If something needs saying, say that it needs saying and then set a time for tomorrow. Not avoidance, a scheduled return. Use the interval to work out what you actually want rather than what you want to prove. Very few hard conversations get worse for being held a day later.
