If someone filmed a time-lapse of your year, you’d see growth you swear isn’t happening day to day.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Change is imperceptible at the interval you experience it. You are the worst positioned observer of your own progress, because you never get the comparison shot and your standard rises at the same rate as your ability. The absence of visible improvement is a measurement problem rather than an absence of improvement.

Make the comparison shot deliberately. Keep something from today: a recording, a page of work, a note about what is currently hard. Put it away and look at it in six months. It is the only reliable way to see your own trajectory.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Would a year of photos show growth you deny?
