Dough doesn’t rise faster because you keep poking it. Some things grow best when you leave the room.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Interference does more than fail to help, it resets what was already in motion. Checking on something in progress often disturbs the exact conditions it needed, so the checking becomes the reason it takes longer, which then confirms the worry that started the checking. The cycle runs on care rather than malice, which is what makes it hard to see.

Choose the thing you are currently fussing over and set it down for a fixed stretch. Go somewhere else, physically if you can. Come back at the end of the time rather than at the end of your patience.
