Being the family fixer at fifteen doesn’t mean you signed up for the job for life. You can retire from roles.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
Roles taken on early were rarely chosen, they were whatever the situation needed at the time. The role then persists long after the circumstances that created it, partly because everyone is used to it and partly because it became part of how you understand yourself. A job you grew into is not a lifetime contract.
Ask which of your current responsibilities you actually agreed to and which you simply inherited. Hand back one small piece and see what happens, which is usually less than you fear. You are allowed to be something other than the person who manages everything.
Which role from your childhood are you still performing?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
