A selfie is the face you chose. A mirror at 7 a.m. is the face you have. Make peace with both.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

A chosen image and an unchosen one are both partial. One was selected from many attempts in good light, the other caught before the day started, and neither is the face other people actually spend time with. That face is in motion, mid-sentence, in ordinary light, and it is not being graded by anyone but you.

Notice how much of your looking is inspection rather than seeing. Try letting the morning version pass without commentary for a week. What you are practising is not confidence about appearance so much as dropping a scoring habit that was never accurate anyway.
