Some freedoms become less interesting after you finally receive them.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Some freedoms are mostly desirable while out of reach. The unstructured time, the ability to do exactly as you please, the absence of anyone to answer to: these can arrive and turn out to be emptier than they looked, because much of their appeal came from being denied. Wanting something and enjoying it are handled by different parts of a person.
Before reorganizing your life around a freedom you do not have, try a small version of it first. A week of it, a month. You will learn quickly whether it is the thing itself you want or the relief from the current constraint, and those lead to very different decisions.
What did you long for that turned out to be ordinary?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
