Envy is a rude compass, but it points somewhere real. Notice what you’re jealous of and ask if you actually want it.

REFLECTION
Envy is unpleasant and unusually well informed at the same time. It fires at things you want and will not admit to wanting, which makes it a reliable pointer even though it arrives in an ugly form. Treating it purely as a character flaw wastes the information.
When the feeling shows up, stay with it a moment and ask what specifically you envied. The freedom, the skill, the attention, the money. Then ask whether you want that thing or only want to have been chosen, because those two answers lead in completely different directions.
What does your jealousy point at that you actually want?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
