Getting older teaches you that a calm ordinary week can be a remarkable gift.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

A week in which nothing goes wrong is easy to overlook and increasingly hard to arrange. Health holding, relationships steady, work manageable, nobody in crisis: any one of those can fail at any time, and when they do, an ordinary week becomes the thing you would trade almost anything for. The value is only obvious in retrospect, which is a shame.

If this week is calm, notice it while it is happening. Not with forced gratitude, just accurate accounting. Say out loud that things are all right at the moment. That small act of noticing is most of what people wish afterward they had done.
