If you’re slow but clever, don’t race. Play chess. Choose the game that rewards what you’ve got.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Competing on someone else’s strength is a choice, and usually a bad one. Speed, volume and raw confidence win certain contests, and if those are not yours, entering them means losing slowly in public. Patience, preparation and thinking two steps out win different ones.

Look honestly at what you are actually good at, then find the version of your field that rewards it. If you think better slowly, choose work that allows a draft. Changing the game you are in beats getting slightly better at a game built for someone else.
