You’ll count down the days to a concert but not to anything else. Every day is worth counting.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Anticipation is a choice about attention, not a property of events. A concert gets counted down because you decided it was worth counting, and ordinary days pass unmarked for exactly the same reason, which is that nobody assigned them any significance. The days themselves are not different in kind.
Pick something small and near and let yourself look forward to it: a meal, a Friday, someone coming back. Noticing it in advance changes the week leading up to it as much as the thing itself. You are allowed to be pleased about ordinary things ahead of time.
What are you counting down to right now?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
