Reality contains scales so large and small that intuition becomes almost useless.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Your intuitions were built for the middle range: objects you can lift, distances you can walk, spans of time you can remember. Outside that band they simply stop working. Very small and very large are not just harder to picture; they are genuinely beyond the equipment, and any confident feeling you have about them is worth almost nothing.
When you deal with something at an unfamiliar scale, whether a large number, a long timespan, or something microscopic, use arithmetic rather than instinct. Write it out. Your feeling about it will remain wrong afterward, and at least you will know not to trust it.
Where has your gut sense of size or distance been badly wrong?
