Every time you break a promise to yourself, you lose a little trust in your own word. Keep the small ones.

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Self-trust is built the same way trust with anyone else is, out of a record of kept commitments. Each abandoned intention teaches you, quietly, that what you say to yourself is provisional, and after enough of those you stop being able to believe your own plans. The confidence problem people describe is often just this ledger.

Make commitments to yourself small enough that you will certainly keep them, then keep them exactly. Ten minutes done beats an hour intended. Rebuild with things you cannot fail at, and add difficulty only once your own word sounds credible again.
