The easiest lie you didn’t tell is the reason they believe you now.

Credibility is built out of moments nobody knew were tests. Every time the convenient version was available and you gave the accurate one, you added to a record that does quiet work later, when something you say is hard to verify. The people believing you now are not being generous; they are using data.

Watch for the small cheap untruths that would cost nothing today. Say the exact thing instead, including when it makes you look slightly worse. You are not being noble, you are building what you will need on a day when your word is all you have.
