Sometimes the kindest reply is space. Not every message needs an answer, and not every person needs access.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Not every message deserves a reply, and silence can be a decision rather than a failure. Answering sometimes keeps alive a conversation that is doing harm to one or both of you, and stepping back is the gentler option. That is different from punishing someone with silence. The difference lies in whether you are withdrawing to hurt or withdrawing to stop.

Before replying out of obligation, ask what another round would actually produce. You are allowed to leave something unanswered without providing a reason. Where it matters, say once that you are stepping back rather than simply vanishing.
