Compliments are dessert. Critique is the protein. You can’t grow on sugar alone.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Praise and correction do different jobs. Encouragement keeps you in the game and rarely tells you anything usable, while critique is uncomfortable and carries the actual instructions, which is why people who collect only the first kind level off early and pleasantly. You need both, in something other than equal measure. Most of us gather one and avoid the other.
Ask one person this week for the specific thing you should fix. Make it easy for them by asking about a narrow area rather than in general. Thank them and then change it, since that is how you get told the truth a second time.
Whose critique have you been avoiding because it stings?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
