Thinking you’re the best in the room is a great way to stop learning from the room.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Being the most capable person present is expensive. Once you settle into that judgment you stop asking questions, you listen for errors instead of for what you are missing, and everyone else becomes an audience rather than a source. Rooms usually contain more than your estimate allows for. The belief costs you the room.

Assume each person there knows one thing you do not and go looking for it. Ask a question you do not already have the answer to. Where you genuinely are ahead, spend the time teaching rather than confirming.
