Checking is not really the problem. What matters is what gets attached to the number, because a count measures how something traveled at a particular hour and turns into a running referendum only when you keep asking it a question it cannot answer. The refreshing is designed to be hard to stop, so there is little point treating it as a test of character.

Try separating the two acts. Post, then put the phone somewhere else for an hour, and look once later if you want. What you are protecting is your attention rather than your discipline.
