Before chasing it, ask why you want it. “So they’ll finally notice me” is a weak engine.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Goals powered by somebody else’s attention run out early, because the fuel is outside your control and the finish line moves whenever they look away. There is nothing shameful about wanting to be noticed. It is simply a poor engine for a long effort, since the reward depends on a person who may never deliver it.
Ask what you would still do if nobody ever found out. Whatever survives that question has a motive that belongs to you. If nothing survives, the thing may still be worth doing, and you will want a second reason before you start.
Whose attention are you actually chasing right now?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
