Cleaning the mat after class isn’t punishment. It’s how you learn the place that teaches you deserves care.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
Looking after a space changes your relationship to it. Once you have wiped the mat down yourself, the room stops being a service you consume and becomes something you help maintain. That is the entire point of the chore, which is exactly why nobody explains it to you. The tasks are small on purpose, and the lesson lives in doing them rather than in hearing about them.
Do one unglamorous maintenance job this week in a place you benefit from. Stacking the chairs, washing up at work, sorting the equipment. Notice whether you feel any differently about the place afterwards, because you probably will.
Which place that teaches you have you never tidied?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
