Let your ambition make you curious, not cruel.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Appetite for more can turn in two directions. Pointed outwards as curiosity, it makes you interested in how other people got good, what they know, what you are missing. Pointed badly, it turns other people into obstacles and their success into an insult. The energy is identical, and the difference shows up in how you talk about rivals when they are not in the room.

When somebody beats you at something this week, ask them a genuine question about how they do it. Notice if the first thing you feel is an urge to find fault in them. That reaction is worth catching early, because it hardens.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Has wanting more made you more curious or just harder on people?
