Be suspicious of any goal with no people in it. Who’s it for? Who’s coming with you?

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

A goal described purely in numbers and positions usually comes from comparison rather than from wanting something. Ambitions that hold up tend to have faces in them: somebody who will use the thing, somebody you want to work alongside, somebody whose life it changes. Without that, arriving feels strangely empty and the effort gets hard to justify to yourself.

Take your main goal and write down who it is for and who is coming with you. If both lines come out blank, that is worth sitting with before you spend another year on it. Adding one real person usually changes what you build.
