Don’t aim to be impressive. Aim to be useful in a way that’s hard to replace.

Impressive is aimed at an audience and wears off. Useful is aimed at a problem and compounds, because the person who can genuinely fix the thing, close the shift properly, or explain the material gets asked back, and being asked back is most of what a career is. Hard to replace has little to do with being clever. It is about being the one who reliably handles something specific.
Pick one thing the people around you keep needing and get properly good at it. Learn the register, the lighting board, the spreadsheet, the warm-up. Being the person they call beats being the person they applaud.
What makes you hard to replace rather than merely impressive?
