Whoever opened that corner shop at 5 a.m. for thirty years built something, even if nobody wrote it down.

Something can be substantial and completely unrecorded. Thirty years of unlocking a door early meant a neighbourhood had milk, a place to stop, somebody who knew their name, and none of it got written down anywhere, which is not the same as it never having existed. Most of what actually holds a place together has never been documented at all.
