A family farm lasts because someone in every generation chose the early alarm. Legacy is a decision repeated.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Continuity is not a possession handed down intact. It is a choice remade by every person who inherits it, and any one of them could decline, so a thing still standing is evidence of a long series of ordinary decisions rather than one grand gesture. Nothing lasts by momentum. Somebody keeps choosing it, usually before dawn and without ceremony.

Anything you want to continue in your own life works the same way. Rather than deciding once that you are the sort of person who does it, set up the next instance: the time, the day, the alarm. A decision has to be renewable to be real.
