Someone with half your talent and twice your patience will often get there first. Be both if you can.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Patience is the multiplier people underrate, because it is impossible to display. Talent shows up in a single afternoon, which is why it collects all the attention, while patience only becomes visible after four years of somebody still being there. Over that length it tends to win. The talented often leave early, because things came easily enough that difficulty reads as a signal to stop, and the patient simply keep turning up.

So look honestly at which of the two you have been relying on. If you have been coasting, add some stubbornness. If you have been grinding, get somebody to check your technique as well.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Where has impatience cost you more than lack of ability?
