Some weird ideas aren’t wrong, just early. Write them down anyway.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Being early looks identical to being wrong at the time. An idea that does not fit current conditions gets dismissed, and sometimes the conditions change and the idea turns out to have been right all along, which nobody can tell apart in advance. Writing it down costs almost nothing. Losing it costs you ever finding out which kind it was.

So keep somewhere to put them, a note or a cheap notebook, with the date attached. Write the strange thought down even when you can already see the obvious objection. Read the list back every few months, because some of them will have grown teeth.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Have you written down the strange idea you keep having?
