Money is a scoreboard. Make sure you also like the game you’re playing.

A scoreboard is useful and it is not the sport. Money measures something real, which is exactly why it is easy to let it become the entire purpose, and people can spend years winning at an activity they dislike because the number keeps rising. That number says nothing about whether the days were worth having. Both questions matter and only one of them gets tracked for you automatically.
Ask what your last week actually contained, separately from what it paid. If the honest answer is that you dreaded most of it, that is worth knowing early.
Beyond the money, what do you actually enjoy about the work?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
