The discomfort of being the worst person in a room is temporary and very visible, which makes it feel heavier than it is. Not starting at all is comfortable and invisible, and costs far more across a decade. People overestimate how much anybody notices their awkwardness and underestimate how quickly beginners stop being beginners. A few weeks of looking clumsy buys years of competence.
Go and be bad at something this month in front of other people. A class, a team, a first shift. Count how many of them genuinely care how you do, which will be fewer than you expect.
What are you avoiding because you would be the oldest beginner?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
