Ambition is wanting to grow. Greed is wanting more than your share. Watch which one is talking.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Both of these feel like wanting, which is why they are so easy to confuse from the inside. Growth is about your own capacity and leaves room for everybody else to grow as well. The other kind is about proportion, and it needs somebody to have less so that you can have more. The useful question is whether your version of winning requires anybody to lose.

Look at what you are chasing and ask whether it takes anything from the person standing next to you. If not, pursue it hard and without apology. If it does, look for a version that does not.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Are you after growth right now, or after someone else’s portion?
