You can’t choose how fast you learn, but you can choose not to quit before the slow part ends.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
Learning rates are not evenly distributed and not something you can argue with. Some people pick a thing up in a fortnight and some need a year, and the part under your control is whether you are still there at the end of the slow stretch. Most people quit during the plateau, which is also the part just before things click.
Decide in advance how long you are giving something, and make the number generous. When it gets dull and you stop improving, treat that as the middle rather than the verdict. Keep a short record of what you could not do a month ago.
What are you close to abandoning just before it gets easier?
